With the transfer window only hours old it looks already likely that Rangers are going to be extremely busy.
With the imminent return to the club of loan players Joe Dodoo, Michael O’Halloran and Andy Halliday. Dalcio Gomes and Aaron Nemane are expected to return to their parent clubs respectively.
Rangers seem close to the double capture of defender Russell Martin on loan from Norwich and flamboyant winger Jamie Murphy from Brighton on a 3 year deal. Both deals are reported to be imminently close, with Murphy costing in the region of £800k.
Indeed Brighton fan websites reporting that particular deal is all but done and would prove a big boost to Rangers wide left problems.
With Rangers also heavily linked and said to be in discussion with Kilmarnock over a deal for Jordan Jones, another winger, it is clear gaffer Murty is keen to add more invention to the Rangers line up with the manager said to want both wingers signed up immediately. Rangers have reportedly offered Lee Hodson in exchange for Jones which Kilmarnock have rejected, indicating they would prefer MOH in return. What deal is struck if any, remains to be seen.
Rangers are also said to be in negotiations with top EPL sides for a loan move. A few names have been mentioned but this is said to be the DOFs deal so also worth keeping an eye on this to see if anything transpires.
In today’s big news it also is heavily rumoured elsewhere that a deal for Jason Cummings from Nottingham Forest is close to completion. The forward who scored so many for Hibs in Scotland, could he be about to return with the light blues? Would certainly be an exciting signing if there is any interest there.
As we told you weeks ago Danny Wilson is in contract talks and said to be close to extending his Ibrox stay with a well deserved 2 year extension. The club are also set to begin talks with David Bates as Rangers begin plans for the future.
What is clear is that Rangers won’t be difficult to deal with this January should teams look to sign the likes of Carlos Pena, Eduardo Herrera and Fabio Cardoso. If the club can get deals over the line don’t be surprised to see these guys leave.
The biggest problem and worry is recent rumours James Tavernier is looking to leave and is refusing to sign a new deal. Tav showed in our last game just what an asset he can be and I’m certainly worried he will leave.
With Jimmy Nicholl to return as assistant manager in the next few days Rangers are putting in the foundations for the remainder of the season. Jimmy is an ex player and supporter of the club, he will be very well respected within Auchenhowie and a sound guide for Murty going forward.
What is clear is Rangers are set for a busy January ahead, it’s never boring following the light blues that’s for sure and January looks like it will be no different.
